I like to explore my options before settling on one specific toy I like, so I decided that it was time to put down the COLT Power Stroker and see what else was out there. The Fleshlight was soft, but way too big and too delicate. I wanted something else to play with that rivaled the Fleshlight as far as brand name goes. I turned my eager palm to the Vibratex company, famous for The Rabbit. They had developed a masturbator sleeve for men called the Maven, so I decided to see if it was worth the fuss.
Vibratex is an excellent Japan based company. As I mentioned, they were made famous by creating The Rabbit – a classic women’s vibrator. You probably know it from Sex and the City when Charlotte buy’s a vibrator and doesn’t leave her room for a week.
The Maven is light blue in color and measures about 7″ in length. The light blue material is made entirely of squishy-soft elastomer. Whereas the viscosity of some elastomers is too delicate for silicone lubricants, the Maven is durable and 100% silicone safe.
The inside of the Maven is lined with rows of small bumps that are meant to act as “pleasure studs” to increase sensation. The end opposite of the end that you penetrate is sealed which is meant to create some fun suction action. Just looking at the male sucker and all it has to offer is enough to make your mouth water!
Unfortunately I’m not a fan. I tried it first with water based lubricant and felt that the vacuum aspect of it worked against it. After a handful of strokes the suction got too tight and just made the piece feel like it was causing more friction than anything. And I am a fan of dry-hand friction usually, so for me to be bummed about this means it really wasn’t cutting it. I even tried removing it and starting over several times but it just kept getting to the point where it wasn’t feeling so hot, and worse – it felt like the lubricant wasn’t even there at times.
I tried it a second time that day (thank you active libido) with silicone lubricant, but yielded similar results. Although the slickness of the silicone helped deal with the friction aspect, the tightness didn’t feel pleasurable. If anything it just felt like something was getting in my way of making myself feel good. And what’s more – it wasn’t until this point that I realized I hadn’t really felt the “pleasure bumps” at all!
Everybody likes different things and that is great. Maybe the Maven is for somebody but it’s definitely not for me. At $30 I can send you to a much cheaper toy that works a lot better and you’ll have money left over to buy a drink. If however you enjoy the sensation of suction, the Maven would be perfect for you, especially if used with some warming lubricant!
